Acne Keloidalis Nuchae Treatment
Like most other types of scarring alopecia, AKN is a chronic condition that is difficult to treat. AKN patients with pustular folliculitis are treated with topical and systemic antibiotics such as topical clindamycin or systemic tetracycline group. The inflammatory papules and smaller fibrotic papules often respond to intralesional triamcinolone at doses of 5 to 10 mg/cc. Short courses of superpotent topical steroids or more prolonged courses of mid-potency topical steroids may be helpful. Large areas of hypertrophic scarring can be treated with higher concentrations of intralesional triamcinolone, surgical excision or laser ablation.
