Dermoscopy Pigmentation and Blotches
Pigmentation refers to structureless areas of diffuse brown-grey-black pigmentation. Various patterns have been described including localized regular, localized irregular, diffuse regular and diffuse irregular pigmentation. Melanin in low density in any lesion at any level in the epidermis and dermis can cause diffuse pigmentation. Benign lesions have regular pigmentation. Malignant lesion show black, brown, and/or gray pigmented areas with irregular shape and/or distribution.
