Dermoscopy Regression Structures

Regression in melanoma is seen as white areas. These white scar-like

areas correspond to fibrosis, loss of pigmentation, epidermal thinning

and effacement of the rete ridges. They may be seen associated with

blue areas that represent melanophages within a thickened papillary

dermis. White areas and blue areas are seen in melanoma. White areas

are also found in atypical nevi.

Hypopigmentation refers to a localized or diffuse area of decreased

pigmentation in either the epidermis or dermis.

It is seen in both benign and malignant lesions.
