Genital Warts HPV Lesion Types STD

Lesion types

There are three types of lesions.

Acuminate warts present with finger like digitate projections that arise in clumps. Vessels can sometimes be seen through the non keratinized thin epithelium. They are found on mucosal epithelium, such as the, labia minora, introitus, vagina, cervix, anus, anal canal and urinary meatus. They also occur in moist intertriginous areas of the groin, perineum, and anal area.

Papular warts are found on the keratinized epithelium of the outer penile shaft, scrotum, vulva, and perianal area. The surface is relatively smooth and there are no finger-like projections. They are hyperkeratotic and often pigmented. Deeply pigmented red brown flatter lesions are characteristic of bowenoid papulosis.

Macular lesions can appear on any surface. They are thin and subtle and may only be visualized with cross lighting. The surface is creased rather than smooth. The color varies from grey to pink or brown.
