Lymphogranuloma Venereum TreatmentManagement Recommended treatment for both bubonic and anogenital LGV is doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 14 days or tetracycline 500 mg four times daily for 14 days or erythromycin 500 mg four times daily for 21 days. Erythromycin should be given to pregnant women. Patients with advanced disease may require treatment for more than 14 days. Large collections of pus should be aspirated, using a lateral approach through normal skin. It is difficult to distinguish LGV from chancroid. Erythromycin is effective against both chancroid and LGV, but a longer course of treatment is recommended for LGV. Azithromycin 1. 0 g orally once is effective for chancroid. Some STD specialists believe azithromycin 1.0 g orally once weekly for 3 weeks is likely effective, although clinical data are lacking. Rectovaginal fistula, bowel obstruction, and esthiomene are corrected with surgery. |
