Skin Metastasis
Metastasis of tumors from organs to the skin is uncommon. Nevertheless, these lesions are often misdiagnosed, overlooked and under appreciated. Cutaneous metastases may be the first sign of malignancy. This occurs most frequently with tumors of the lung, kidney, and ovary. However, it is more common for a cutaneous metastasis to occur in patients with know metastatic cancer.
Cutaneous metastases occur in 0.7% to 9.0% of all cancer patients. Detection of these lesions may alter disease staging and thus treatment, and also herald recurrence of a previously treated malignancy.
