Lesions often begin as a slowly growing mass with no symptoms. Ulceration and bleeding can occur.

Squamous cell carcinoma. This tumor is infiltrating the ear and shows the typical scaling ulcerated surface.

A more advanced tumor with an ulcerated surface. These tumors can spread to regional lymph nodes and then metastasize to other body organs and eventually cause death.

Squamous cell carcinoma is commonly found on the scalp. This tumor was present for over one year and the surface shows ulceration and crusting.
