An epidermal cyst is a firm, subcutaneous, keratin-filled cyst originating from true epidermis, most often from the hair follicle infundibulum. Epidermal cysts are common, usually solitary, and arise spontaneously. They occur most commonly on the trunk, postauricular fold and on the posterior neck.
